Messengers grew out of a dream journal I kept during the pandemic. Other salient images in this print come from living in Rome for 7 months in 2013. In that city, as in many Italian cities and towns, angels in art and architecture are ever-present in the streets, in the churches, and in the museums. I think of angels as passengers, transports between worlds, between life and death. They hover like birds as watchful sentries. Couple these influences with caring for my aging 96-year-old mother; death becomes that much closer and personal.
